The ClimateSmartAdvisors project involves an international network of 65 partners from 27 European countries. Its main focus is building advisory capacities in climate-smart agriculture within individual countries and at the international level. The aim is to support the European agricultural advisory community and accelerate the adoption of climate-smart practices within the broader agricultural community in the EU Agricultural Knowledge and Innovation Systems (EU AKIS).
As one of the partner organizations, IAEI is involved in national activities (creating communities of practice, organizing training, integrating advisors into AKIS, collaborating with demonstration farms, etc.) and co-leads two work packages:
WP1: Connect providers of advisory services across EU member states and associated countries with the pilot network of Climate Farm Demo (CFD) farms, expand the network, and support mutual learning among advisors.
WP4: Monitor and evaluate the capacity building and learning within the ClimateSmartAdvisors network, improve its functioning, and enhance its impact on strengthening advisors, with the goal of accelerating the adoption of climate-smart agricultural practices
Project Objectives:
The aim of the ClimateSmartAdvisors project is to strengthen the advisory community in EU agriculture, leading to the accelerated adoption of climate-smart agricultural practices by the broader agricultural community across European Agricultural Knowledge and Innovation Systems (AKISs). To achieve this goal, the project focuses on the pivotal role of advisors in developing and disseminating innovations and climate-smart agricultural practices. The project will organize activities geared towards enhancing the capacities of advisors and supporting their role in transitioning to climate-smart agriculture through their involvement in innovation projects, European initiatives, and European AKIS focused on climate-smart agriculture (CS AKIS). A comprehensive set of complementary activities has been developed to enhance advisory capacities in the field of climate-smart agriculture within the EU advisors' community:
- Creation of Communities of Practice (CoPs): Establishing CoPs of advisors throughout the EU, forming the core of CS knowledge exchange, involving 260 CoPs and facilitating the development of 1500 advisors.
- Specialized Training: Providing specialized training for 140 advisors on selected topics relevant to their context and to facilitate collaboration within CoPs.
- International Knowledge Exchange: Facilitating international knowledge exchange among CoPs in 12 thematic areas.
- Knowledge Repository: Establishing a knowledge repository providing advisors with tools, methods, and approaches for climate-smart agriculture developed in the ClimateFarmDemo project and further expanded in the ClimateSmartAdvisors project.
- Monitoring and Evaluation: Utilizing the project's experiences, both within and outside the project, for monitoring, evaluation, and learning activities.
Activities aimed at strengthening the role of advisors in transitioning to climate-smart agriculture also include:
- Establishing Connections: Establishing connections with local and European (multi-actor innovation) projects, initiatives, AKIS actors, and policymakers to clarify and address common needs, challenges, and acquired experiences.
- Setting Up Co-Design Innovation Experiments: Creating co-design experiments to gain insights into strengthening the role of advisors in innovation processes.
